Oakes, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes girls basketball team wrapped up their regular season with a win on Monday February 10th beating Class A’s Lisbon Broncos by a final score of 58-33.

The game started out a little slow for Oakes but they’d turn that around halfway through the first quarter as Lisbon got into foul trouble giving 12 free-throws in the quarter, which they’d convert 9. This gave the Tornadoes a solid 21-9 lead through the first. They would continue to build onto their lead as they’d expand the lead to 36-18 at the half. The difference maker in the first half was free-throws as Oakes would go 15/22 from the stripe while Lisbon only had 1 trip to the line.

The second half continued with Oakes dominance as they’d go 7/10 in the 3rd giving up only 1 field goal to the Broncos to take a commanding 52-18 lead after the third. After a couple minutes into the 4th they’d sub out their seniors for one final time on their homecourt giving them the sendoff they deserved as Oakes would cruise to the 58-33 victory.

The leading all around scorer was Ryatt Wertman of Lisbon who had 15 points (6/15 FG, 1/2 FT). The leading scorers for Oakes was Haylie Dethlefsen with 14 (4/7 FG, 5/5 FT) and Kassidy Jackson with 14 (6/13 FG, 2/2 FT).

Next up for the Tornadoes is Enderlin in the quarterfinals of the District 1 Tournament on Friday. They will play game 3 of the day at approximately 6:00 pm. You can catch all of the action from day 1 of the tournament in Valley City on KDDR The Tornado and KBMW.
