FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – A sentencing hearing is scheduled for former North Dakota state Sen. Ray Holmberg who pleaded guilty to traveling overseas to have sex with children. The sentencing is set for March 26 in Fargo.
Last August, Holmberg admitted in federal court that from 2011 to 2016, he repeatedly traveled from Grand Forks to Prague to pay to have sex with boys as young as 12.
Holmberg has been in the Sherburne County jail in Elk River, Minnesota since turning himself in to U.S. Marshals Nov. 1 after prosecutors said he continued violating the terms of his pre-sentencing release.
The maximum penalty for the charge against Holmberg is 30 years in federal prison, but sentencing guidelines call for about three to four years.
