MOORETON, N.D. (Valley News Live) – An SUV that went through the ice on Mooreton Pond has been recovered by an area dive team.

Two boys escaped through the front windows of the SUV after it broke through the ice just before 7:30 p.m. on January 27. Mooreton Pond is located at 7902 170th Avenue SE, which is east of Mooreton, in the area of I-29 and Highway 13.

A fisherman who was also on the pond called 911, picked up the boys and kept them warm until their parents arrived.

Tri-State Diving recovered the vehicle on January 31. They say the Chevy Tahoe was in about 9 feet of water. They used a SUVE (Submerged Under Vehicle Extractor), ATVs, a winch and tow hooks to get the vehicle out of the water.

During the recovery, the dive team reported about 7 inches of ice.
