CARRINGTON (NewsDakota)- It had been since December of 2023 since the last time Carrington Girls Basketball had lost a home game, and the same team that handed the Cardinals that loss handed them another one on Thursday night.

Thompson (13-4, 4-3) controlled most of the game in defeating Carrington (15-3, 7-2) on Thursday night in the East Gym 62-39, snapping the Cardinals seventeen game home winning streak.  The Tommies, who Carrington defeated 64-63 on the road in December, started well in taking a 13-4 lead in the early going before Brynn Smith and Kenadie Pazdernik hit consecutive threes to cut the lead to 13-10 after one.  Kya Hurst scored all nine Thompson points in the second quarter, including a buzzer-beating three that gave the Tommies momentum and a 22-16 halftime lead.

The third quarter proved decisive as Thompson outscored Carrington 24-13 in pulling away behind a more balanced attack.  Hurst led the Tommies with 19 points while Marah Johnson led Carrington with 10.

The Cardinals hit the road on Tuesday night to face future Region II opponent May Port-CG with coverage on KDAK The Cardinal beginning at 6:45 PM.
