VALLEY CITY, ND (NewsDakota.com) This week marks the continuation of the VCSU Viking baseball season after a successful open of the year last Thursday.
The Vikings will take their 2-0 record on the road to Graceland University, with games scheduled Friday and Saturday in Kansas City, MO.
Valley City State topped Dakota Wesleyan 8-4 and 9-4 for a doubleheader sweep in a surprising start to the season, at least as far as date of start is concerned. January baseball in the Dakotas, a rare feat, saw the Vikings bang out 17 hits in the two games.
Brady Papineau drove in five runs in the two games. Daegen Morcum hit a home-run in the series.
The Vikings are picked fourth in the NSAA preseason poll.
