JAMESTOWN – Minot State has the top-ranked team in ACHA Division 1 Men’s Hockey. The Jamestown Jimmies probably wouldn’t argue with that.
The Beavers came from a 2-0 deficit Friday and completed the comeback with a power play goal by Brayden Pawluk in overtime for a 3-2 win over the Jimmies at Wilson Arena. Minot State lost to the Jimmies in October, then won the last five regular season meetings between the teams.
Darius Makse gave Jamestown (19-6-2) a great start with two first period goals. He scored an unassisted goal at 7:53, then connected for his 16th on the power play at 11:19, assisted by Kole Christensen and Brenden Vulcano.
Brett Tataryn and Trenton Curtis, with Curtis’ goal on the power play, scored in the middle period for Minot State.
The game remained tied until overtime, when Wyatt Johnson of the Jimmies took a hooking penalty 59 seconds in. At 2:05, Pawluk scored the game-winner.
The Jimmies were out shot 47-23. Brandon Weare made 44 saves in goal for Jamestown.
In their final home game of the season, the Jimmies will host UMary on Friday, February 14 at Wilson Arena.
