BISMARCK – Recent good play for Jamestown Blue Jay Girls Basketball nearly carried over into a first road win of the season. For the Blue Jay boys, a tough season continues.
Century used a late 14-3 run to hold off Jamestown in girls basketball Tuesday 56-46 at Olson Gym at Century High School. The Patriot boys, undefeated until last week, had no trouble in defeating the Blue Jay boys 89-44.
Girls: Century 56, Jamestown 46
Jamestown (5-8, 3-7 WDA) led 2-0, then not again until 38-37 and 40-37 late in the second half. After that, Century (8-6, 6-4) used a 14-3 run to decide the game.
Zoie Austin scored 26 points with seven rebounds for Century. Olivia Klimpel added nine.
Haley Attleson led the Blue Jays with 11 points, hitting two three-pointers and gaining five rebounds. Adisyn Yunck scored 10 with two treys. Hannah Attleson had eight rebounds.
The Blue Jays had the better field goal shooting percentage, 40% to 39%, than Century, but cost themselves with 24 turnovers and by allowing the Patriots 15 offensive rebounds.
Boys: Century 89, Jamestown 44
This wasn’t the time to catch Century, from Jamestown’s point of view.
The Patriots (13-1, 10-1 WDA) had lost for the first time this season last Friday at Bismarck High. As they did in the game in Jamestown in December, Century had a hot start, scoring 22 of the game’s first 24 points.
Drew Kempel scored 20, 18 of which came in the first half. He hit two three-pointers and snagged nine rebounds. Braylon Aldinger scored 14 points off Century’s bench.
Thomas Newman poured in 12 for Jamestown (0-13, 0-10). Ryan Kallenbach tallied nine points on three three-pointers. The Blue Jays’ losing streak is now 15 games, dating back to last season’s West Region tournament.
