SYLVANIA, OH – After a win Thursday in their opener, University of Jamestown Men’s Volleyball lost twice on Friday at the Gray Wolf Invitational at Lourdes University’s Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
Jamestown lost in four sets to Hope International, then lost in four sets to host Lourdes.
Hope International def. Jamestown 22-25, 25-18, 25-21, 36-34
Michal Niemiec had 19 kills and nine digs for the Jimmies (1-1). Gaven Hackley struck 13 kills and Tomasz Swiderski had 11. Gabriel Ocasio had a career-high 47 set assists.
Jamestown outhit Hope International .364 to .172 in winning the first set. The Royals used 4-0 and 5-0 runs on their way to winning the second set.
In the third set, UJ had one more kill, but Hope International hit .286 to the Jimmies’ .207.
The marathon fourth set featured 22 Jamestown kills, but Hope International hit .351.
Lourdes def. Jamestown 25-19, 17-25, 25-22, 25-18
Swiderski had 15 kills. Niemeiec had 11 kills. Tysen Myers tallied seven.
Ocasio made 24 set assists. Hackley had a career-high 13 digs.
In the match’s final two sets, the Jimmies (1-2) had 19 attack errors and just 20 kills.
UJ will play next on Thursday at the Pirate Invitational at Park University in Parkville, Missouri against Westcliff University.
