carrington-16

GRAFTON (NewsDakota)- The Carrington girls basketball team saw two different games within one on Thursday night in Grafton.  For eight minutes, free and easy, and 32 combined points between the teams.  For the following three quarters, a rock fight that yielded only 47 combined points.

Fortunately for the Cardinals, they had enough offense and more masterful defense to lean on in a 49-30 Region II road win over the Grafton Spoilers on Thursday evening at the Grafton Performing Arts Center.

The game started well for Carrington (13-1, 6-1), as they jumped all over the Spoilers’ zone defense, hitting three triples in the first quarter en route to a 22-10 lead after one.  Grafton (3-7, 1-4) adjusted to a 1v1 defense and the game slowed into a defensive slugfest as only 25 total points were scored in the second and third quarters combined, with Carrington leading comfortably throughout.

The win was by the exact same margin (19) as when the teams played in Carrington.  The Cardinals have the best start to a season through 14 games since the 2016-17 season, when they began 15-0.

Carrington are back in action Tuesday night at home against the Devils Lake Firebirds, who handed Carrington its’ only loss, with coverage on KDAK The Cardinal beginning at 6:45 PM
