VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Hi-Liner/Farmers Union Wrestler of the Week for the week ending January 19, 2025 is Katherine Russell. Katherine is a 7th grader at VCHS and wrestles at 148 lbs
Katherine had a great day of wrestling at the Lisbon (Storhaug) tournament this past Saturday. Katherine went 2-1 with two pins. In her one loss, she was very much in the match and had the lead after the first period. Katherine will look to avenge that loss this Saturday in Napoleon.
Coaches note: Katherine is just a 7th grader but is currently ranked #7 in North Dakota at 148lbs. She is not only the only 7th grader ranked in the top 10 at 148 lbs, but she is also the only 7th grader ranked from 130 lbs all the way through 250 lbs. Her success comes from a combination of her physical strength, toughness, and aggressiveness plus she has an uncanny ability to take what we show her in practice directly to the competition mat. It often takes weeks of practicing techniques in the practice room to be able to use them effectively on the competition mat. Katherine can seemingly do this in one or two practices.
