FREMONT, NE – The power play chances kept coming for University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 Men’s Hockey, and the Jimmies took advantage of one for a big win.
Jacob Thomas scored with a man advantage with 1:44 left Saturday as 6th-ranked UJ came from a 3-1 deficit to defeat Midland 5-3 at Sidner Ice Center.
Midland had killed off five of six penalties earlier before Thomas scored his fifth, assisted by Alex Erichuk and Brenden Vulcano, for what turned out to be the game-winning goal. Jordan Baranesky scored his second goal of the game into an empty net with 56 seconds left.
Baranesky scored at 14:06 of the first period for the Jimmies (19-6-0) before the Warriors’ Francesco Cecchetto scored with 1:19 left in the first 20 minutes.
Karl Grafelman and Mathew Kochanowski scored in the first four minutes of the second period and Midland led 3-1. Erichuk scored on the power play at 9:07 and UJ was down 3-2 after two.
Darius Makse scored his 14th at 5:08 of the third period to tie the game at 3-3.
Jamestown outshot Midland 35-26. Winning goalie Brandon Weare had 23 saves.
The Jimmies will have a road showdown with Minot State on Friday night at MAYSA Arena, trying to break a three-game losing streak against the Beavers.
