FREMONT, NE – Two late third period goals, including the winner by Jacob Thomas, brought University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 Men’s Hockey back from a 4-3 deficit Friday for a 5-4 win over Midland at Sidner Ice Arena.
The Jimmies (18-6-0) led 3-2 after two periods before Midland (13-14-1) rallied in the third. Matthew McCaw tied the game 4:24 into the period, then Matthew Kochanowski gave the Warriors a 4-3 lead at 7:00.
Jamestown tied the game with a Darius Makse power play goal at 11:24, just six seconds before a Midland penalty was to expire. Then, just 11 seconds after the Jimmies killed off a James Hooten tripping penalty, Makse set up what proved to be the game-winner by Thomas at 16:24.
Mario Decapite and Brad Fortin scored in the first period for Jamestown before Midland came back with middle period goals by Thomas Babb and Hugo Lukacovic. Jordan Baranesky scored with 5:27 left in the second and the Jimmies led again.
UJ had a 29-22 shot advantage. Jimmie goalie Brandon Weare made 18 saves for the victory in net.
Jamestown will again play Midland in Fremont on Saturday.
