SANBORN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A semi cattle trailer lost control on Interstate 94 near mile marker 276 around 3:50am Friday, January 17th.
Sanborn Fire Chief Dana Didier said a few cattle died and several head of cattle were recovered near the crash scene. He said the driver of the semi was not injured.
Didier said the truck driver was eastbound on Interstate 94 with a load of cattle heading for Green Bay, Wisconsin when the crash occurred.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol said a Peterbilt truck was eastbound on I-94 when the truck was driven off the road into the south ditch. The truck overturned onto the passenger side facing east. The driver, 55-year-old Joshua Borden, was treated on scene by the Barnes County Ambulance and not transported. He sustained minor injuries in the crash.
The semi was loaded with 77 head of cattle. In the first report there were six dead calves with further evaluations to be completed later. First responders set up traffic control in the eastbound lanes. Lanes were reduced to one lane for six hours while crews worked to trailer the remaining cattle and remove the semi.
The Stockman’s Association is still searching for one missing calf. The public is asked to call Barnes County dispatch center at (701) 845-8181 or the North Dakota Stockman’s Association (701) 595-6269 if a black 700lbs calf is located.
The Valley City Rural Fire Department assisted the Sanborn Fire Department at the scene along with the Barnes County Sheriff’s office, Barnes County Ambulance, North Dakota Stockman’s Association, and the ND Highway Patrol.
