Oakes, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Tornadoes Girls and Boys basketball teams started off the week on opposite feet with the girls traveling up to Maple River and struggling against the Raiders on Monday while the Boys rode a strong first quarter all the way to victory against Barnes County North on Tuesday.
Girls
The Tornado Girls struggled in the first half against the Maple River Raiders only going 5/30 from the field in the first half falling behind by a score of 26-13. The Raiders were able to use strong defense and a bit of bad luck from the Tornadoes as they themselves weren’t fairing much better in the shooting category only going 9/33 in the first half.
The 2nd half saw the Raiders expand their lead out a little more until it was a 20 point deficit with around 4 minutes left to go in the game. However the Tornadoes being led by Kassidy Jackson and Molly Sitzler began to turn things around making it a 9 point game with under 90 seconds left to play. It wouldn’t be enough however as Maple River would hold on for the victory winning 54-43.
The all around leading scorer was Adyson Hannig with 19 points going 5/11 from the field and 8/11 from the line. The leading scorer for Oakes was Kassidy Jackson with 14 points with 5/14 from the field and 2/4 from the charity stripe, she’d also be the Bank North Player of the Game.

Their would be nothing between the two teams in the 2nd quarter as there would only be 14 total points scored, 7 from either team resulting in a 39-33 game going into the 4th. BCN would then hold Oakes to 0 points in the first 4 minutes of the final frame allowing them to come with in 2 points.
