FORT TOTTEN (NewsDakota)- For one half on Tuesday night, the fourth-ranked Carrington Cardinals were in a tough game with Four Winds-Minnewauken, almost playing exclusively from behind to tie the game at the half.
Then, in the blink of an eye, they weren’t anymore.
A 33-8 second half blew open that tight game as Carrington won their seventh in a row with a 56-31 win over the Indians at Four Winds High School. The Cardinals won the third quarter 21-3 and the fourth quarter 12-5 in pulling away from their Region II opponents.
Brynn Smith hit three triples in the game and co-led the Cardinals along with Edyn Hornaert in scoring with 13 each while the defense held outstanding Four Winds-Minnewauken freshman guard Suri Gourde to just 10 points on the night. There were four ties and four lead changes in the a first half played entirely in a five point window before Carrington pulled away.
The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday night at home against the Region I Northern Cass Jaguars with coverage on KDAK The Cardinal beginning at 6:45 PM.
