Carrington, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) —-Josh Bickett did not score a point in the opening quarter of Carrington’s 70-51 win over Griggs-Midkota (GM). The senior guard may not have scored any of the 26 points that propelled the Cardinals to a 26-14 lead, but he dished out 4 of his game high 10 assists and finished the night with a double-double adding 13 points. Bickett would add 5 rebounds and most impressively as the primary ball handler did not commit a single turnover in the contest. Grady Idland also scored a career high 14 points including 9 in the opening quarter that helped spark the Cardinal offense. Idland scored all 14 points in the first 3 quarters and also added 4 assists. Taylen Mehring scored a game high 18 points (shared with Brady Haugen of the Titans). Mehring, the sophomore sharpshooter scored all 18 points via the three-ball. Mehring drilled 3 of 6 triples in the opening quarter. Mehring added a team high 9 rebounds and 2 steals as well. Alec Threadgold added 9 points off the bench and grabbed 7 rebounds. Tate Wolsky added 8 points and 8 rebounds, and Maddox McIlonie added 7 points and 3 rebounds.
The Cards defeated the Titans 10 days earlier in almost identical fashion with a 63-40 win in the Ramsey County tournament semi-final victory. The Titans made a mini run early in the third quarter, cutting the Cardinal lead down to 10 points at 40-30 and also 42-32. The Cardinals would go on a 17-4 run and led 59-36 (largest lead of the game at 23 points) and put the game out of reach leading 61-38 after 3 quarters matching their largest lead of the game at 23 points. The Titans were paced by Haugen with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Kindle Carlson (8 points) and Isaac Stadler (7 points) aided the Titan offense. The Titans dropped to 4-2 overall (both losses to Carrington) and the Cardinals improved to 8-3 overall and will host Rugy next Monday night with coverage on AM 1600 KDAK (THE CARDINAL), FM 100.1, and www.newsdakota.com
