VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Superintendent Josh Johnson said over the past four years, our school district has been researching and studying our school facility needs. We have looked in-depth at various options, including renovation and replacement, to determine how we can address the needs of our school facilities. During this
process, we have received great feedback from our local constituents. While opinions on the best option may differ, most everyone believes something must done, sooner than later, to address our aging school facilities in Valley City.

He said a School Facility Advisory Committee was formed in December and tasked with providing the school board with a recommendation on how to best address school facilities. The committee will consider any and all options before offering their formal recommendation to the school board by March or April. In an effort to gather information and assist in forming a recommendation, the committee will collaborate with facility industry experts at no additional
cost to the district.

In addition to the facility committee, VCPS has helped to create a School Construction Coalition seeking state funding for school construction in North Dakota. Recently the coalition presented recommendations to a legislative funding task force in preparation for the 2025 legislative session. Thank you to our District 24 Legislators for touring the VCPS school facilities on December 19th and supporting requests for new state funding for school construction.

In the next couple of months, the school district will be sharing information with the public on behalf of the facilities advisory committee. Please look for an announcement upcoming from the school district on the dates/times/locations of public meetings. The information from these meetings will also be shared through various media sources, including our school district website, to ensure that constituents have this important information on our school facility
plans.

Thank you for your interest and feedback on this important topic impacting our community. We look forward to presenting you with this information in the near future and listening to your feedback. As stated above, while opinions may differ on the best options, most everyone believes something must be done, sooner than later, to address the aging school infrastructure at Valley City Public Schools.
