VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City High School (VCHS) Activities Director, Rob Hunt, received a report from Barnes County Tournament officials that an adult from the opposing team had observed and video recorded VCHS students in the bleachers making racist and derogatory comments during the varsity basketball game between VCHS and White Shield.
Superintendent Josh Johnson said upon receiving this report, he and Mr. Hunt immediately began an investigation into the alleged student misconduct.  This included contacting representatives from White Shield, game referees, students from VCHS, and other adults that were in close proximity to the alleged incident.
Johnson said, while our investigation will remain open, we have yet to receive any information that substantiates student misconduct that was reported following the basketball game on Tuesday, January 7th.  We have made repeated requests for the reported video recording; however, at this time have yet to receive a copy of any video.
Johnson said Valley City Public Schools will not tolerate discriminatory behavior or misconduct by anyone affiliated with our school district. If you have information related to this alleged incident, we ask you to please contact me at josh.johnson@k12.nd.us or 701.845.0483 or the Barnes County Tournament Commissioner.
