BISMARCK – Through Silas Bennion and Jimmy Llinas, Jamestown Jimmies swept the NSAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week awards for the week ending January 4. Bennion won the Offensive Player of the Week honor and Llinas was named as the Defensive Player of the Week.
Bennion scored 22 points on nine-of-12 shooting on Friday in Jamestown’s 85-81 victory at Valley City State. He also had seven assists. Bennion followed that with 19 points and nine assists in the Jimmies’ 87-72 win Saturday at Mayville State. Eight of those assists were in the first half. In the two games, Bennion shot 63 percent (17-of-27), made three-of-six three-pointers and made all four of his free throws.
Llinas had nine rebounds, two blocks and a steal in the Jamestown win at VCSU. At Mayville State, Llinas earned eight rebounds, two steals, and three more blocked shots. He now has 114 blocks in 65 games for the Jimmies and 200 as a college basketball player. Llinas had 86 blocked shots in two seasons at St. Xavier University.
