HILLSBORO (NewsDakota)- The Hillsboro/Central Valley girls put a massive scare into the fourth-ranked team in the state on Friday night. But the Cardinal seniors were not to be denied as a game-ending 11-0 run led Carrington to a 45-34 win on the road in Region II play.
The shooting issues that plagued Carrington (8-1, 4-1) in the first meeting between the teams continued as they led only 10-3 through the first quarter. The Cardinals extended the lead to fourteen by halftime as six different players scored in the opening half for Carrington.
But the Burros (3-5, 0-2) responded strongly and began the fourth quarter on a game-tying 10-2 run to knot the score at 34 with 5:00 left. From there, Edyn Hornaert scored the games next seven points and Kaydence Van Ray buried a three and sank a free throw to put out the hopes of the upset.
The Cardinals will step back out of Region II play on Tuesday night and return home to face the Rugby Panthers with coverage on KDAK The Cardinal beginning at 6:45 PM.
