BISMARCK – Struggles continued for both Jamestown Blue Jay basketball teams Friday in their first games after the holiday break. St. Mary’s swept JHS, with the Saints girls taking a 45-34 victory before the Blue Jay boys fell 77-62 at the main gym at St. Mary’s Central High School.
Girls: St. Mary’s 45, Jamestown 34
In a game where both teams’ offenses struggled, Jamestown (2-4, 0-3 WDA) held a 17-13 lead at halftime and continued a four-point lead into the first few minutes of the second half before St. Mary’s rallied.
Mataya Messer led St. Mary’s (3-3, 1-2) with 17 points, eight rebounds, three assists, six steals and three blocks. Journey Oukrop scored 10 points with five rebounds.
Mea Ulland, Haley Attleson, Macey Neumiller and Leah Trumbauer scored six points each for the Blue Jays. Hannah Attleson pulled down 14 rebounds and Haley Attleson had seven.
Boys: St. Mary’s 77, Jamestown 62
Jackson Barth was too much for the Blue Jays. The junior forward paced St. Mary’s (2-4, 1-2 WDA) with 24 points and 17 rebounds. Christian Benning scored 18 with six rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block.
For Jamestown (0-5, 0-3), Thomas Newman scored 19 with four rebounds and two steals. Jaxon Kolpin scored 11 with four rebounds. Madden Skunberg scored nine off the bench.
Both teams will next play Tuesday. Jamestown’s girls will play at Minot. The boys will host Minot at Jerry Meyer Arena.
