DEVILS LAKE (NewsDakota)- A season-high eleven three pointers allowed the Carrington Cardinals boys basketball team to build a huge lead by halftime as they rolled to a 66-40 win over the Nelson County Chargers on Thursday night in the Ramsey County Tournament quarterfinals.

The Cardinals (4-2) hit their first three shots from the field, including two threes by Taylen Mehring, who finished with five triples and nineteen points on the night.  It was the second quarter, however, that decided this game as Josh Bickett, Grady Idland, Maddox McIlonie and Mehring combined to hit five threes in that quarter alone and Carrington led at the half 40-17.

Bickett would score twelve of his game-high 24 in the third quarter as he and Mehring combined for 20 in the third and with a running clock in the fourth, a 34-point lead did not grow.  Jaxson Joramo led the Chargers (1-1) with 11 points.

Carrington advance to play Griggs-Midkota, who defeated North Star 58-52 on Thursday night, in Friday’s second semifinal.  Coverage of the Cardinals and Titans on KDAK The Cardinal begins at 7:15 PM.
