Charleen Rose Jewett was born October 15, 1960, in Valley City, ND as the first of five daughters to Norman and Joan Jewett. Charleen married Duc Minh Lam on October 5th, 1979, and had three children: Michael, Anthony, and Penny. Charleen was an advocate for the weak and downcast, often fighting passionately for causes she believed in. She passed down a rich love of art and music to her children and had a vast collection of rare collector’s items through many years of antiquing and searching various shops.
Her battle with mental illness took a toll on her health in various forms but she always seemed to persevere. She was loved by so many even though she couldn’t always see it. She loved to give gifts to her four granddaughters and was elated to be expecting a grandson in the next few months.
Charleen is preceded in death by her father Norman Jewett and survived by her mother Joan Jewett and her four sisters: Pam Kamstra (Dwyle), Jacki Colville (Gene), Mary St. Denis (Pat), all of Valley City, ND, and Cathy Overby (Clarence) of Watertown, SD; Three children: Michael Lam of Oakland, CA, Anthony Lam (Kimmy) and Penny Streiler
(Dalton) of Valley City, ND; and four grandchildren: Ramona, Brielle, Amalie, and Eisley.
The funeral service is 11 am, Saturday January 4 at Valley Apostolic Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City. An online guestbook at oliver-nathanchapel.com
