(NAFB.com) – The American Peanut Council joined other groups in celebrating the life and contributions of Georgia peanut farmer Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the U.S. The former President, who passed away over the weekend, was once quoted as saying, “The things I learned as a peanut farmer put me in good stead throughout my life’s work.” Carter grew up on a peanut farm in Plains, Georgia. After graduating from the Naval Academy and completing his term of service, he returned to manage his family’s farm supply business and several hundred acres of land. Reactions came in from several U.S. agricultural groups, including the National FFA Organization. FFA CEO Scott Stump said, “Carter lived out our FFA motto, ‘Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live, Living to Serve,’ every day.” Rob Larew, National Farmers Union President, said Carter’s background prepared him to serve the U.S. with “grace and compassion.”
