MITCHELL, SD – As hard as University of Jamestown Men’s Basketball battled, DWU and Samuel Aslesen also kept battling.

For the third consecutive game, Aslesen set a career high, scoring 29 points Sunday as Dakota Wesleyan held off Jamestown 78-69 at the Corn Palace.

Aslesen was 10-of-17 shooting, two-of-four on threes and seven-of-eight free throws in his third straight outing scoring at least 23 points.  Randy Rosenquist Jr. added 16 points, six rebounds and four steals for DWU (11-3).

Owen Hektner led Jamestown (5-7) with 21 points, one short of his career high.  He shot seven-of-12, three-of-five threes and hit all four of his free throws.  Anthony Walters scored 14.  Silas Bennion knocked in 10.  Jimmy Llinas scored seven with nine rebounds.

Jamestown led 2-0 before an 11-4 run by DWU.  A three by Aslesen extended the Tiger lead to 18-9.  A Walters three with five minutes to play in the first half brought the Jimmies to within 31-26, but another Aslesen three in the last minute of the half gave DWU a 40-30 halftime advantage.

DWU had two 10-point leads early in the second half, but Jamestown cut it to 57-54 on a Walters three with 9:10 left.  The Tigers led by eight before a Will Cordes layup made the DWU lead three at 62-59 with 6:51 remaining.  Twice, the Jimmies were within two points in the last three minutes.  But DWU’s Tampa Scott IV hit a jumper with 59 seconds left to put UJ down 73-69, then clinched the win with another jumper and a 76-69 lead with 20 seconds to go.

Jamestown lost despite shooting exactly 50 percent from the field.  But, the Jimmies hit just six of 23 three-pointers.

NSAA play will resume for the Jimmies Friday against VCSU at W.E. Osman Fieldhouse in Valley City.  Coverage of the doubleheader, with the Jimmie women playing the Vikings first, will begin at 5:00 PM on Friday on Q101.
