BILLINGS, MT – When big shots were needed for Jamestown Jimmie Women’s Basketball Saturday in their return from the holiday break, they knew to whom to turn.

Kate Cordes hit seven three-pointers and scored 29 points and Jayden Wiest hit six threes and scored 18 as Jamestown came back from an eight-point deficit to defeat Rocky Mountain College 72-65 at the Fortin Education Center in the Green & Gold Classic, UJ’s eighth consecutive win.

Jamestown (10-1) scored the game’s first seven points before Rocky Mountain used a 15-1 run to lead 20-13 after one quarter.

Cordes’ fourth three-pointer of the first half, with 46 seconds to play in the second quarter, brought UJ to within two at halftime, with Rocky Mountain (8-3) leading 34-32.

Hannah Hagel hit two buckets in the first three minutes of the third quarter, the second of which gave the Jimmies the lead, for good as it turned out, at 40-38.  Wiest hit two threes late in the quarter, each of which gave Jamestown its seven-point lead back before a Gracee Lekvold three and a free throw brought the Bears within 54-51 after three periods.

Two Megan Oswald free throws and another Cordes three gave Jamestown a 59-51 lead with 9:25 left.  Rocky Mountain came within 62-61 on a layup by Iliana Moran with 5:47 to play, but the Jimmies then held the Bears scoreless for the next 4:17.  A Cordes jumper and Wiest layup made the Jamestown lead 66-61.  Cordes’ seventh three with 29 seconds left gave UJ a 69-63 lead and three free throws, one by Jessika Lofstrom and two by Megan Oswald, helped seal the win.

Cordes was 11-of-17 shooting, seven-of-11 on three-pointers and had eight rebounds and six assists.  Wiest was six-of-10 shooting and five-of-nine threes.  Hagel scored eight.

Paige Wasson scored 19 points with seven rebounds for Rocky Mountain.

In Billings on Sunday, the Jimmies will play their final non-conference game of the regular season against Southern Alberta Institute of Technology at 2:00 PM Central time.
