CARRINGTON (NewsDakota)- Foul trouble, and lots of it, meant that Carrington only had a three-point lead at halftime on Saturday against Dickinson Trinity.

Then, in the blink of an eye, the fourth-ranked Cardinals left the Titans in the dust.

A 26-7 third quarter outburst led Carrington (7-1) to its’ third straight win, 65-37, over Dickinson Trinity (2-5) in the Carrington Holiday Shootout on Saturday afternoon.

The game actually started with Anabelle Scheeler scoring the games’ first five points for the Titans, but Carrington would answer with a 15-6 run to take the first quarter lead.  Foul trouble in the second quarter saw the Cardinals dealing with Marah Johnson, Maara Kutz, Edyn Hornaert and Kaydence Van Ray trying to avoid further foul damage and the lead was cut to 28-25.

But Van Ray scored nine of her eleven and Hornaert scored six of her game-high 20 in the decisive third quarter as the Cardinals pulled away and won the second half by 25 points.  Yet again, the Cardinals saw contributions from several players, as nine scored during the game.

The Cardinals are back in action on Friday night in Region II play on the road at Hillsboro/Central Valley.  The game will be seen in its’ entirety on the KDAK The Cardinal YouTube page late Friday night.
