CARRINGTON (NewsDakota)- It had not happened since the 2022-23 postseason for Carrington boys basketball, but it did on Friday night.
Behind a career-high 21 points, including five threes, from Sophomore Taylen Mehring and 19 from Senior Josh Bickett, Carrington mercy-ruled an opponent for the first time in 21 months in a 69-37 win over Nedrose in the Carrington Holiday Shootout on Friday night.
The first six minutes were tic-for-tac with Nedrose (0-2) taking a 12-11 lead. And that is when the Cardinals (2-2) took firm control with a 19-0 run which gave Carrington a lead that would never dip below nine again.
The last time the Cardinals had mercy-ruled an opponent came in the opening round of the 2023 District Tournament when the program rolled over Oakes 66-29. Carrington has matched their win total from last season while winning the two by a combined 47 points.
The Cardinals wrap up the Carrington Holiday Shootout on Saturday against Watford City with coverage on KDAK The Cardinal beginning at 12:15 PM.
