JAMESTOWN – The Blue Jay girls hockey team had the home ice Tuesday night against highly touted West Fargo United and gave one of the top teams in the state all they could handle before United skated away with a 4-2 victory.

After a scoreless first period, Jamestown struck early in period two on an unassisted goal by freshman Layla Becker, her first of the season, and grabbed a 1-0 lead.

West Fargo answered on a power play goal by junior Rachel Spanier, her second of the season, to knot the score at one after two periods of play.

United made it four unanswered goals when Spanier, Reaghen Mathias and Ava Josephson netted third period goals.

Jays freshman Grace Allmaras scored on a breakaway with 2:01 remaining, her team-leading fifth of the season, to round out the scoring.

West Fargo outshot the Blue Jays 42-26 and improved to 5-1 on the season.

Jamestown freshman goalie Ady Bakalar was once again solid in net kicking out 38 shots.

Next up for the 2-4 Blue Jays is a road trip out West, at Minot on Friday and at Williston on Saturday.
