Leo A. Zaun was born July 4, 1950, in Valley City, ND to his parents Paul and Adeline Zaun. He passed away on December 11, 2024.
Leo was raised in Valley City, spent some time in California before moving back to Valley City. He proudly served in the United States Army as a Specialist 4. He was an infantry man in the 101st Air Borne during the Vietnam War. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Medal, Bronze Star Medal with Oakleaf Cluster, Marksman with M14 carbine, Meritorious Unit Citation, Purple Heart with Oakleaf Cluster, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm Leaf Cluster, and Bronze Star Medal with Valor. He was employed by Lockheed. The planes he worked on were the L1011 and later the SR71.
He was a hunter, fisherman, enjoyed camping, and being outdoors. He was a family man through and through, spending time with family was a high priority. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
Leo is survived by his children Wendy Preston (Andy), Carolyn Zaun, grandchildren Crystal ~ Lynn, Gracie, Deziree, Jayden, and Justin, sister Darlene Zaun (Rosslyn), and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Paul and Adeline Zaun, sister Pauline Newell and brothers Curtis and Norman Zaun.
Private services will be held in the new year.
