Janice Ammon, 83, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, surrounded by family at SMP Health – St. Raphael nursing home in Valley City, North Dakota.
Janice Elizabeth Piatz was born on August 19, 1941, in Hazen, North Dakota, to Joseph and Stella (Yeager) Piatz. She grew up and attended school in Stanton. Janice married Arlan Ammon on January 7, 1961. They had two children, Lori and Lorin. They made their home initially in Fargo, then moved to Ellendale to raise their family. While in Ellendale, Janice worked at the Nodak Café and was active at Zion Lutheran church, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
The family moved to Carrington, ND in 1983. Janice worked for many years at the Chieftain Motor Lodge and Cenex C-Store. She knew most of the high school kids by name since the C-Store was a frequent high school lunch destination.
After retiring, Janice and Arlan purchased an RV and spent the fall and winter months in Arizona. They enjoyed their retirement community, spending their time at the community center with new friends for game nights. Janice was an avid reader and loved puzzles. She was always on the lookout for new books and puzzles.
In 2009, Janice and Arlan sold their RV and moved to Jamestown. Arlan passed away in 2014 and Janice relocated to an apartment closer to Lorin and Trina. She was extremely proud of her new home. In 2016, Janice entered Roseadele care facility in Jamestown, and later transferred to SMP Health – St. Raphael in Valley City where she resided until her passing.
Janice is survived by her son, Lorin (Trina) Ammon; one grandson, Luke Ammon, all of Jamestown; sister, Eileen Norenberg, Albany, Oregon; and brother-in-law, James Grannis, Stanton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arlan, daughter Lori, brothers Mike and Keith, and sister Shirley Grannis.
Memorial Service – 2:00 pm, Friday, December 20th, 2024 at Eddy Funeral Home, 621 1st Ave S, Jamestown, ND. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held at a later date. A luncheon will follow the service.
