BISMARCK (NewsDakota)- Much has been made in the basketball realm in North Dakota about what the future may hold for Carrington girls basketball with the promising class of 2028.  But what if the future is already here?

It was freshmen who turned a five point second-quarter deficit into a 56-42 road win at #3 ranked Shiloh Christian on Friday night in the capital city.  With Carrington (4-0) trailing 26-21 just before halftime, freshman Aniston Hornaert splashed a three to cut the halftime deficit to just two.

Then, in the third quarter, freshman Maara Kutz scored the first six points of the quarter to give Carrington a lead it would not relinquish again.  And, in the closers’ role, freshman Marah Johnson scored eight of her ten points in the fourth quarter as the Cardinals began a challenging three-game stretch with a statement win.

Seniors Brynn Smith and Edyn Hornaert led Carrington with eleven points each, Smith’s coming off the bench, as Carrington saw eight different players score in the win.

Carrington get back to Region II play on Monday night in Devils Lake against the defending Class A state champion Firebirds.  Coverage on KDAK The Cardinal begins at 6:45 PM
