CARRINGTON (NewsDakota): The Hillsboro/Central Valley Burros scored directly off the opening tip on Monday night.  Then the Carrington Cardinals buckled down.

A 17-0 run spanning 9:00 of the first and second quarters led the Cardinals (3-0, 2-0) to an easy 56-23 win over the Burros (2-2, 0-1) at Cardinal Gymnasium.  Kendaie Pazdernik’s three gave Carrington a 3-2 lead and they would never trail again.

A balanced effort was led by fifteen points from senior Edyn Hornaert, while freshman Marah Johnson had eight points and several steals at the head of the Cardinals’ full court press.

Through three games, Carrington is allowing just 30 PPG and opponents have only hit four threes; conversely, Carrington have hit 21 threes.

The Cardinals are next in action Friday night at fourth-ranked Shiloh Christian before facing defending state champion Devils Lake (Monday) and Thompson (Dec 20) on the road in the most difficult stretch of the season.  Coverage of the Cardinals and Skyhawks begins Friday at 6:45 PM on KDAK The Cardinal.
