JAMESTOWN – A chance was taken, but it didn’t pay off for University of Jamestown ACHA Women’s Hockey.

Paige Ackerman scored a rare three-on-five shorthanded goal with six seconds left in overtime Saturday to give Minot State a 2-1 victory over the Jimmies at Wilson Arena.

Feeling that her team needed a win to improve her team’s standing after ties against better teams, Jamestown Head Coach Hannah Griffin chose to pull goalie Katelyn Galuszka with 13.7 seconds left for an extra skater with a faceoff in the Beavers’ zone.  Paige Kozak had taken a penalty for checking for Minot State with 1:45 left.  The strategy backfired on Jamestown (4-9-2-2) when MSU won the draw and Ackerman wristed the puck the length of the ice and into the empty net.

Gaby Schroeder scored her seventh goal and third in as many games at 5:28 of the first period for a 1-0 UJ lead.

Cameron Schmidt tied the game for the sixth-ranked Beavers (12-5-1-2) at 3:55 of the third period.

Galuszka made 36 saves, including eight on two power play chances by Minot State in the third period.

Jamestown will play its sixth straight home game Friday at 7:00 PM at Wilson Arena against Midland.
