CARRINGTON (NewsDakota)- A big first half run gave the Carrington Cardinals girls basketball team a lead they would not relinquish in a 59-40 win over the Grafton Spoilers on Friday night in the Region 2 opener for both teams.

Brynn Smith hit four threes off the bench for 12 points, Edyn Hornaert collected 15 points and six rebounds, while Kaydence Van Ray and Marah Johnson added ten points each in the win for Carrington (2-0, 1-0).

Carrington trailed after one 14-13 before a 13-3 run including two of Smith’s three pointers.  From that moment, the lead never dipped below five.  Grafton (1-1, 0-1) was led by Savannah Blackcloud, who had fourteen points and six rebounds.

The Cardinals conclude their three-game season-opening homestand on Tuesday against Hillsboro/Central Valley (1-1).  Coverage on KDAK The Cardinal begins at 6:45 PM.
