BISMARCK – The power play worked again for Jamestown Blue Jay Girls Hockey, but Century’s big line worked even better.

Avery Matt scored a hat trick and linemates Macie Vig and Morgan Rieger each had a goal and two assists Tuesday as Century outlasted Jamestown 6-4 at the VFW Sports Center.

Ellie Krueger scored her second and third goals of the season on power plays for Jamestown (1-2-0-0, 0-2-0-0 ND).

Matt opened the scoring for Century (1-0-2-0, 1-0-1-0) 2:59 into the game.  Morgan Rieger scored shorthanded at 8:29 of the first period to double the Patriots’ lead.

Layla Becker’s second goal, with Tylea Sortland assisting, brought the Blue Jays within a goal at 9:50 of the first period.

The first of Krueger’s two goals, at 1:19 of the second period, tied the game at 2-2.  Grace Allmaras assisted.

Ellyce Hanson tallied on the power play for Century for a 3-2 lead at 4:52, but Krueger scored again with the extra skater at 6:08, set up by Stella Belzer for a 3-3 tie.

Vig gave Century the lead for good just 39 seconds later and Matt scored her second of the game at 9:08.

Layni Bakalar popped in her second of the season with 1:58 left in the second and the Blue Jays were down just 5-4, but Matt completed her hat trick with 42 seconds left in the middle period.  The third period was scoreless.

Avery Graves made 25 saves in net for Jamestown.  The Blue Jays’ power play was two-for-five and is four-for-13 through three games.
