HAZEN – Jamestown Blue Jay Boys Hockey came out with a strong start for their new head coach.

Grant Lunde scored twice and Jackson Maddock had a goal and two assists Saturday as Jamestown defeated Hazen/Beulah 6-2 at the Hazen Winter Sports Arena in the debut for Jake Stilwell as Blue Jays’ head coach.

Parker Roelfsma scored what proved to be the game winner 46 seconds into the third period, the first of four goals for Jamestown in the final 17 minutes after the game was knotted at 2-2 after two periods.

John Belzer increased the Jamestown lead to 4-2 at 8:38, set up by Bennett Goehner and Maddock.

Lunde scored his second of the game just 56 seconds later, with Jacoby Traut assisting.

Maddock closed the scoring with 4:26 remaining on assists by Bezler and Vaughn Romsdal.

Hazen/Beulah scored first just 1:50 into the game on a power play goal by Bradyn Braithwaite.  Romsdal answered with Jamestown’s first goal of the season, also on the power play, at 6:35.

Lunde’s first goal at 1:32 of the second period gave the Blue Jays the lead back at 2-1.  Traut and Gabe Halko assisted.

Grady Holen evened the game for the Northstars at 4:21 of the middle period.

Leif Hanson stopped 15 shots for the win in goal.  Jamestown outshot Hazen/Beulah 43-17.
