MEDINA, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A New Town man faces multiple charges after assaulting a North Dakota Highway Patrol trooper and a sheriff’s deputy during a DUI arrest on Saturday afternoon.

The incident began around 1:30 p.m. on November 23, when a trooper responded to a report of a vehicle driving recklessly eastbound on Interstate 94 near mile marker 233, about four miles east of Medina.

The driver, identified as 37-year-old Angelo White, was found to be under the influence of alcohol. During the arrest, White reportedly assaulted the trooper, leading to a prolonged struggle. A Foster County sheriff’s deputy traveling through the area stopped to assist after hearing a call for backup over the radio, and White allegedly assaulted the deputy as well.

Additional state troopers and Stutsman County deputies arrived on the scene several minutes later, taking White into custody.

White was charged with multiple offenses, including two counts of simple assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest, and contact by bodily fluids against law enforcement, all Class C felonies. He was also charged with several misdemeanors, including DUI, refusal to submit to a chemical test, and driving while his license was suspended. White is being held at the Stutsman County Jail.

The NDHP trooper sustained minor injuries and is recovering at home.

Second DUI Arrest Reported Near Casselton

About an hour later, another NDHP trooper responded to a separate reckless driving report on Interstate 94 near mile marker 333, two miles east of Casselton. The driver in that incident was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol without incident.

The Highway Patrol reminds motorists to drive sober and report reckless or impaired drivers to law enforcement.
