ROMEOVILLE, IL – Brad Fortin scored his team-leading 14th goal and had three assists and Darius Makse scored twice Sunday as University of Jamestown ACHA D1 Men’s Hockey held off Arizona State 6-5 in the Jimmies’ final game of the Chicago Showcase at the Canlan Ice Sports Arena.

Jamestown (15-2-0-0) won their final two games of the event after a loss on Friday.

Fortin, set up by Alex Erichuk and Keaton Cline, scored 4:27 into the game for a 1-0 Jimmie lead before Ryan Quast tied the game for the Sun Devils (4-9-0-0) at 9:43.

Makse and Cline scored just 19 seconds apart later in the period.  Makse tallied just nine seconds into a powerplay, at 12:01 gave UJ a 2-1 lead.  Cline scored his fourth at 12:20.  Fortin set up both goals.

Carter Newlin scored for ASU with 1:20 left in the first period and the Jimmies led 3-2 after one frame.

Makse’s 10th, another powerplay goal, assisted by Kaelan Shelton made the UJ lead 4-2 at 5:10 of the second period.  Jake King scored for Arizona State at 8:25 before Jordan Baranesky gave Jamestown a 5-3 lead with his 12th goal, set up by Fortin and Kole Christensson at 15:53 of the middle period.

Wyatt Johnson notched his second goal for the Jimmies, with Baranesky assisting, at 1:32 of the third period.  Caden Butler scored for ASU at 7:11 on the powerplay and Matthew Gross brought the Sun Devils within a goal with 2:56 left.

Brandon Weare made 33 stops in the Jamestown net.  The Jimmies had 43 shots on goal to Arizona State’s 38.

Jamestown will return to conference play on Friday, December 6, starting a home-and-home series with Minot State at Wilson Arena.
