FARGO – This state tournament weekend for Jamestown Blue Jay Volleyball continues to bring frustration.
Bismarck supplied the latest lot on Friday, winning the NDHSAA Class A consolation semifinal match in straight sets over Jamestown 25-22, 25-21, 25-19 at the Fargodome.
Bismarck (30-10) stopped the Blue Jays for the fourth time this season, having beaten Jamestown in both regular season meetings and in the quarterfinal round of the West Region Tournament on November 14.
Versatile hitter Jordyn Rood had eight kills, five and a half blocks and five digs for the Demons. Taylor Mayer had eight klils with seven digs and a block. Dalena Aamot struck seven kills with two and a half blocks and two digs.
Lucy Falk continued her steady play for Jamestown (21-19) with 10 kills, two blocks and a dig. Falk has been in double figures in kills in all four of the Blue Jays’ postseason matches. Leah Trumbauer had nine kills, an ace, one-half block and 15 digs. Edie Hegerle had 29 assists, 11 digs, a kill and three digs.
Bismarck zoomed to a 19-11 lead in the first set and was up 24-18 before Jamestown saved four set points. A Rood block for the Demons ended the set.
Jamestown scored four of the first five points in the second set before a 9-1 run by Bismarck which included five kills and an ace. Two Trumbauer kills helped Jamestown come back for an 11-11 tie. Two blocks by Falk helped the Jays stay even at 19-19 before Bismarck scored six of the last eight to take the set.
Bismarck again stormed in front early in the fourth set, leading 6-1, 11-5, 13-6 and 15-9. Jamestown managed only to come within four points.
The Blue Jays will close their season Saturday by playing for seventh place at the Fargodome. Coverage will begin at 9:45 AM on The Voice of the Blue Jays, Jamestown 107.1.
