BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued multiple advisories as North Dakota braces for its first significant winter storm of the season, expected to impact the region today through Wednesday.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for north-central and parts of northeast North Dakota from noon Tuesday until 6 p.m. Wednesday. Meanwhile, a Winter Weather Advisory covers central and east-central North Dakota, primarily along Highway 200, from 3 p.m. Tuesday to 6 p.m. Wednesday. A Wind Advisory is also in place for areas along and west of Highway 281.

The storm is forecasted to bring heavy snowfall, with the northern parts of the state seeing the highest totals. Jamestown could receive 1 to 3 inches of snow, while Carrington may see between 3 and 7 inches. Strong northwest winds accompanying the storm are expected to cause blowing snow and significantly reduced visibility, creating hazardous travel conditions across the region.

The NWS expanded its Winter Storm Warning early Tuesday morning to cover more of northern North Dakota due to increased aerial coverage of anticipated heavier snowfall.
