JAMESTOWN – A team from Mississippi stands between the Jamestown Jimmies and another trip to Sioux City.
University of Jamestown Women’s Volleyball will host William Carey University on Saturday in the opening round of the NAIA Women’s Volleyball Championship at Harold Newman Arena. The winner will earn one of 24 spots in pool play, which will begin December 4 in Sioux City, Iowa.
The Jimmies are 22-2 following their loss Friday to Dakota State in the semifinal round of the NSAA Women’s Volleyball Championship in Bellevue, Nebraska. UJ and Dakota State received at-large bids from the NSAA, as Bellevue defeated DSU on Saturday for the title and the conference’s automatic bid.
Jamestown is making its 12th appearance in this tournament, and will look to make the final site for the ninth year in a row. In 2022, UJ won the national championship, the first for any Jamestown athletic program.
William Carey University is located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The Crusaders are 28-9 and are in the Southern States Athletic Conference. They finished tied for second in the regular season standings in the SSAC and lost Saturday in four sets in the championship match of the conference tournament to the league’s regular season champion, the University of Mobile. This is WCU’s second appearance in the NAIA Championship. Their first was in 2019, an opening round loss to Xavier (LA).
Coverage of Saturday’s match will begin at 1:45 PM on The Voice of the Jimmies, Jamestown 107.1.
