BUTTE, MT – One second-half run by Jamestown put a scare into the nation’s ninth-ranked team.  But Montana Tech showed why they have that ranking.

Camdyn Larance led four in double-figure scoring for Montana Tech Saturday with 19 points as the Orediggers defeated the Jimmies 84-67 at the HPER Complex.

Brayden Koch scored 15 off the bench for Montana Tech (4-0), hitting three three-pointers.  Michael Ure scored 14 points and Hayden Diekhans added 13.

Anthony Walters led Jamestown (1-2) with 22 points, shooting eight-of-10, three-of-four on three pointers and three-of-four on free throws.  Owen Hektner scored 12 points (three threes) and had six rebounds.  Ayden Stainbrook scored eight.  Jimmy Llinas rolled an ankle in the first half and was held to only nine minutes, all in the first half, with four points.

Hektner hit a three, Llinas had two layups and Hektner nailed a jumper as the Jimmies started the game with a 9-2 run in the first 4:53.  A Walters jumper had Jamestown still up seven at 16-9 just under eight minutes into the game.   Montana Tech then took the lead for good with a 13-0 run, including two threes by Larance and one by Brayden Koch.  By halftime, the Orediggers built the lead to 39-22.

UJ was down 58-46 with 10:35 left before an 8-2 run in 1:25 on threes by Ayden Stainbrook and Spencer Barr and a Carson Woodford layup brought the Jimmies to within 60-54.  Just after that, Tech had a 14-2 run to end the Jimmies’ upset bid.

Montana Tech shot 55 percent from the field for the game.  Jamestown shot 39 percent overall and 10-of-25 on three-pointers.

Jamestown will play future NSIC foe UMary on Thursday night in Bismarck.
