GREAT FALLS, MT – University of Jamestown Women’s Basketball improved to 3-1 Saturday with an 82-70 victory over Montana State-Northern at the University of Providence’s McLaughlin Center.
Kate Cordes continued her great scoring start for Jamestown (3-1). She led all scorers with 25 points on 7-of-13 shooting, three-of-five on three-pointers, and eight-of-eight free throws. She also had three rebounds and three assists.
Jessika Lofstrom scored 13 off the Jamestown bench and Jayden Wiest scored a career-high 13 points. Kate Busek hit two three-pointers and tallied 12 points. Megan Oswald had nine points. Hannah Hagel equaled a career high with 11 rebounds.
Shyan Krass led MSU-Northern (1-2) with 20 points and seven rebounds. Canzas HisBadHorse scored 14 points and McKenzie Long added 12.
Jamestown opened the game with a 16-4 run before MSU-Northern scored the last four points of the first quarter.
The Jimmies then scored 31 points in the second quarter, led by 10 points and two threes by Cordes and nine points on three three-pointers by Wiest. UJ led 47-30 at halftime.
Krass scored 13 in the third quarter for the Skylights, but Jamestown still led 63-51 through three and never trailed by less than 10 in the second half.
Cordes is averaging 26.5 points per game in her first four games of the season. Through Saturday, she was tied for fifth in scoring in NAIA women’s basketball.
Jamestown will play an exhibition against NDSU in Fargo on Friday.
