GREAT FALLS, MT – Despite Kate Cordes matching her career scoring and rebounding game, the nation’s second-ranked team was too much for the Jimmies.

Four players scored in double figures Friday as the University of Providence rallied to defeat Jamestown 65-56 at the McLaughlin Center.

Keanna Salave’a scored 18 points with 11 rebounds for the Argos (1-2).  Ashlee Maldonado also scored 18 and hit three three-pointers.  Off the bench, Eliannah Ramirez scored 12 and Ainsley Thurber had 11 points andnine rebounds.

Cordes scored 32, matching the career high she set last week in the season-opening win over Bethel.  She also had 10 rebounds to match a career-high and give her her second double-double as a Jimmie.  Hannah Hagel scored 11.

Jamestown (2-1) led 12-9 after one quarter, with Hagel and Jessika Lofstrom each scoring three points.

Cordes scored 10 points in the second quarter, but Maldonado had eight for Providence, including two threes, and the Argos took a 30-26 lead at halftime.

A Hagel bucket with 4:28 left in the third quarter tied the game at 38-38, but the Jimmies then went cold.  Providence had a 14-1 run for a 52-39 lead with 7:29 remaining.  UJ went 4:56 without a point and 7:51 without a field goal.  Providence led by as much as 14.  Cordes’ fifth three-pointer brought the Jimmies to within 60-54 with 1:50 to go, but Jamestown came no closer.

Providence shot only 36 percent from the floor, but held Jamestown to 33 percent.  The Argos had a 44-35 rebound advantage.

On Saturday, the Jimmies will meet Montana State-Northern in Great Falls.
