The Valley City Hi-Liners made a spirited showing on Senior Day but ultimately fell in straight sets to the top-ranked Shanley Deacons, 29-27, 25-23, 25-19.

In the first set, the Hi-Liners trailed most of the way but managed to keep pace with the Deacons. After a late surge, Valley City held set point at 24-23, but Shanley’s defense held strong, denying the Hi-Liners three times before securing the 29-27 victory.

The second set mirrored the first, with Valley City battling back to take a slim lead at 23-22. However, the Deacons’ defense stifled the Hi-Liners down the stretch, allowing Shanley to rally for a 25-23 win.

In the third set, Shanley limited its errors, forcing the Hi-Liners to fight for every point. This time, there was no comeback for Valley City, as Kaetlyn Ommen’s final kill clinched a 25-19 win and the straight-sets victory for Shanley.

The Hi-Liners will play their next game Thursday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. in Wahpeton. The match will air on KOVC 1490 AM and 96.3 FM.
