NEW ROCKFORD, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A fatal vehicle-versus-train collision occurred at approximately 11 a.m. on Monday, about 2.5 miles northwest of New Rockford.

According to Eddy County Sheriff Paul Lies, the accident involved a northwest bound BNSF train stuck a BNSF service vehicle that was backing across the railroad tracks near the intersection of 20th street and 64th Ave near New Rockford ND.  The driver of the service vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the vehicle sustained injuries and was transported by ambulance to CHI St. Alexius Health Carrington Medical Center in Carrington. The extent of the passenger’s injuries has not been disclosed.

The victim’s names have not been released.

Local response teams, including Eddy County Emergency Management, the New Rockford Fire Department, the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office, and the Community Ambulance Service of New Rockford, responded to the scene.

The accident is still under investigation by the Eddy County Sheriff’s office, BNSF and NTSB.
