Region Qualifier #1: Oakes 3-0 Ellendale (25-13, 25-20, 26-24)
The Tornados haven’t missed a Region Tournament since 2011 when they were in Region 1 and they will keep that streak alive as they swept the Cardinals from Ellendale. The match started with Oakes imposing themselves in set 1 as they led through the entire set and took it 25-13. In set 2 Ellendale Led early 3-1 but the Tornados would battle back to take a 6-3 lead. They wouldn’t give up the lead for the rest of the set and eventually win 25-20. Set 3 was a battle the entire way through. Oakes would get a 13-5 lead but Ellendale would battle back to tie it 13-13. The set would be back and forth the rest of the way with Ellendale getting set point at 24-23. Oakes would take the next 2 though and win 26-24.
Ellendale’s season comes to a close with a 14-16 record. Oakes advances to their 13th straight Region Tournament appearance.
Region Qualifier #2: LaMoure-LM 3-1 Griggs/Midkota (28-26, 19-25, 25-14, 25-23)
For the 15th straight year the LaMoure-LM Loboes are back in the Region 3 Tournament. They took a hard fought match against the Titans of Griggs/Midkota. The match started with a severe back and forth affair with 11 ties and 7 lead changes with the Loboes taking the set 28-26. The Titans took the next set dominantly jumping out to a big 16-8 lead and eventually took the set 25-19. The Loboes struck back hard in set 3 taking the set 25-14. In set 4 the Titans battled back from 9-4 to take a 11-9 lead. They would hold the lead most of the rest of the way leading 22-19 late. The lead would evaporate though after a Loboe timeout. LaMoure-LM then went on a 6-1 run to win the set and the match 25-23.
The Titans season ends with a 13-17 record. The Loboes advance to their 15th straight Regional appearance.
Championship: Carrington def. E-K-M 3-2 (25-13, 25-17, 19-25, 20-25, 15-12)
For the first time since 2021, the Carrington Cardinals are District 5 Champions after an instant classic. The Rebels led the fifth set 7-3 before Carrington closed it out. The Cardinals were led by the District 5 senior athlete Isabel Wendel, who amassed a massive triple-double of 22 digs, 18 kills, and 17 assists. Carrington also got 34 digs by Kenadie Pazdernik while Harper Kollman added 29 digs. Brynn Smith had 28 assists. Megan Trautman was named District 5 Coach of the Year.
