NEW ROCKFORD- Grant County/Flasher Head Coach Jamie Krenz spoke at length all week about how explosive New Rockford-Sheyenne/Maddock could be.
He knew what he was talking about.
The Rockets (10-0) got 259 passing yards and six touchdowns from Quarterback Easton Simon and a massive two way game from Bennett Meier as they rolled to a 54-18 quarterfinal win on Saturday at home.
After the Storm scored the opening touchdown on a 32-yard Kelton Friesz to Zach Bonogofsky pass, NR-S got rolling as Simon found Easton Benz for a 12 yard TD to tie it. The teams would trade scores and with the Rockets up 22-12, the Storm (6-4) faced fourth-and-goal from the 3. Friesz saw his pass intercepted by Meier, who returned it 102 yards for a touchdown and it was 30-12.
The second half saw the Rockets get touchdown passes to Meier (71 yards), Kage Walford (58 yards), and Bradyn Collier (5 yards) as they scored 50+ for the eighth time this season.
New Rockford-Sheyenne/Maddock will host Westhope/Newburg/Glenburn on Saturday for a spot in DakotaBowl XXXII. Coverage on KDAK begins at 2:00 PM.
