VALLEY CITY, ND  (NewsDakota.com)  In a game that featured just one touchdown, Valley City State did just enough to earn a home victory over Mayville State Saturday.

Avery Thorsgard hit tight end Trent Finney for a 16-yard touchdown late in the third quarter, and Yzan Lorenzo added a 38-yard field goal in the fourth, pushing the Vikings to a 10-6 win over the Comets at Lokken Stadium.

Thorsgard again played the entire game, rushing for 87 yards on 27 carries, with a handful of runs to convert first downs on the late field goal drive.  He passed for 92 yards on 10-16 throwing.  Jake Deutsch caught two balls for 54 yards.

The Comets had three players take snaps on the afternoon, with Mason Ollman carrying for 55 yards.  Kaden Johnson hit two field goals for the lone Comet scoring.

Valley City State won the game with just 202 yards of total offense, with Mayville State garnering only 158.  The Viking defensive line made two key sacks in the fourth quarter, four on the afternoon.  Taquez Chatman had two sacks, while Moziah Rogers-Tivao led the defense with 11 tackles.

The Vikings are now 3-5, and will host Dickinson State November 11th.
